About

The bay window next to my bed when I was a child was my own little corner of imagination. I spent a lot of time there dreaming up strange ideas and fantasising about being in different worlds. As a grown-up, I found that I missed that little corner, where I could free my creativity and let my mind escape me, so I combined this notion with my interests in craft and jewellery and formed Bay 49.
Elegant and simple, yet practical, Scandinavian and Japanese designs have a strong influence on my work. I also draw inspiration from my background as an architect, as well as everyday objects that I encounter. I am intrigued by the process of reconstructing these objects in a variety of scales and contexts to give them new meaning. As a result, my designs can be appreciated as pared back and simple forms, but with a vaguely recognisable sense of their original source of inspiration.
I live and work in Auckland, New Zealand. If you are interested in my work or would like to leave a comment, please get in touch.
